The Castlegar Aquanauts offers three swim sessions throughout the year.  They are; Fall Session, Winter Session and Summer Session.

Fall Session runs on Mondays and/or Wednesdays for 10 weeks starting in early October and runs until December.  This session is for our gator program, our width program and our junior program.

Winter Session runs on Mondays and/or Wednesdays for 10-12 weeks starting in January and runs until April.  This session is for our gator program, our widths program, our junior program and our senior program.

Summer Session runs from May 1st to mid-August and is our busiest season.  Swimmers have the flexibility to swim up to six days per week in May and up to four days per week in June through August.  Swimmers also have the option of competing in various swim meets throughout our region on weekends.  In addition to development of swimming skills, our registrants learn about nutrition and health, team spirit and team building, and participate in dryland training sessions, team activities and other fun social events.

The various programs we offer are; Gator program, Widths program, Junior program and Senior program.

The Gator program is for our youngest swimmers.  The ages are generally from four to seven years old and this is our beginner level.  The swimmers in this group;

  • Have little or no competitive swimming experience
  • Training focuses on comfort on back and front in water
  • Practice consists mainly of tot pool activities and 25 metre lengths
  • Work towards swimming 25m freestyle and backstroke unassisted

The Widths program is our next level of swimmers.  The ages are generally from five to nine and this is our next level.  The swimmers in this group;

  • Have little or no competitive swimming experience
  • Able to swim half pool length (12.5 metres) unassisted
  • Training focuses on basic swimming skills such as body position, breathing, kicking and arm movement
  • Practice sets consist mainly of swimming in shallow water, either 25 metres or widths wise in the pool
  • Working towards swimming 25 m freestyle and backstroke unassisted

The Junior Program is our next level of swimmers.  The ages are generally from seven until twelve and are considered Division 1 through 3 according to BCSSA.  The swimmers in this group have a broad range of skills but;

  • Able to easily swim 25-50 metres unassisted
  • Can swim freestyle, backstroke and are developing the other strokes
  • Some have competed in swim competitions
  • Can complete streamline, diving, touch turns
  • Swim sets are longer (25, 50 or 75 metre sets)

The Senior Program is our highest level of swimmers.  The ages are generally from twelve to nineteen and are considered Division 4 through 8 according to BCSSA.  The swimmers have a broad range of skills but;

  • Have had a few years of competitive swimming
  • Able to swim all strokes effectively
  • Can perform proper starts, turns, dives and finishes
  • Swim sets are longest (50, 75 and 100 metre sets)

The Castlegar Aquanauts Swim Club welcomes new swimmers at any age group or ability.  We will place you with your approximate age group and help you to develop your skills to your full potential.
